Mark Albert Welge
WELGE
MARK ALBERT, of Newtown Square and formerly of Drexel Hill on Jan. 9, 2007. Beloved husband of Louise M. Welge (nee Snook). Beloved father of Caitlin D. Welge. Loving son of Marie Welge (nee Hall) and the late Albert Welge. Dear brother of John A. Welge (Mickey) and Ann E. Schleppi (Craig). Relatives and friends invited to call Sunday, Jan. 14th from 6-8 P.M. at THE DONOHUE FUNERAL HOME, 1627 WEST CHESTER PIKE (COR. OF HILLTOP RD.), WESTTOWN-WEST CHESTER and Monday Jan. 15th from 10-11 A.M. at St. Simon and Jude Church, Rtes 3 & 352, Westtown. Mass of Christian to be celebrated 11 A.M. Interment private. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in his name to the Lankenau Cancer Center, 100 Lancaster Ave, Wynnewood 19096.

OBITUARY
MARK A. WELGE, 60, ARBITRATOR; MEDIATOR
Mark Welge, age 60, died of cancer on January 9, 2007 at home. He was an experienced arbitrator and mediator, having handled over 1,000 commercial and personal injury actions.
Mr. Welge was President of Welge Dispute Solutions, a firm located in Newtown Square, PA, that he founded in 1999. He was also a "Fellow" of the International Academy of Mediators.
Mr. Welge graduated from The Ohio State University and received his Juris Doctor degree, with Honors, from The George Washington University National Law Center. Prior to entering private practice, he clerked for the late Honorable Thomas A. Masterson, United States District Court Judge, Eastern District of Pennsylvania.
Mr. Welge was a member of three local law firms practicing personal injury and commercial law for twenty seven years before becoming a full-time mediator and arbitrator. In 2006, he was selected as a Pennsylvania Super Lawyer.
Mr. Welge was a member of the Association for Conflict Resolution, a member of its Commercial Section and Tri-Chair of the planning committee for the 2006 Association for Conflict Resolution Annual Conference. He trained, mentored and taught mediators and arbitrators in techniques for service as neutrals.
Mr. Welge was president, director and a founding member of the Greater Delaware Valley Chapter of the Association for Conflict Resolution. He was also a member of the American Bar Association Section on Dispute Resolution. He served as C-Chair of the Pennsylvania Bar Association Alternative Dispute Resolution Committee from 2001 through 2005 and as Co-Chair of the Philadelphia Bar Association Alternative Dispute Resolution Committee from 1997 through 1999. He was also a member of the New Jersey Association of Professional Mediators.
Mr. Welge was admitted to the Second, Third and Seventh Circuit Courts of Appeal and to the Supreme Court of the United States. He was also admitted to practice in both the Philadelphia and Pennsylvania Courts.
Mr. Welge was recently appointed as a member of The Joint State Commission’s Advisory Committee on Alternative Dispute Resolution for the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. The Advisory Committee, which was authorized by Senate Resolution 160 of 2005, assists the Commission’s Joint Task Force on Alternative Dispute Resolution.
Mr. Welge was an avid golfer and played many local golf courses as well as courses in Ireland and Scotland, including the St. Andrews Old Course at St. Andrews, Scotland.
Mr. Welge is survived by Louise, his beloved wife of thirty-four years; his daughter, Caitlin; his mother, Marie; his brother John (Mickey); his sister Ann (Craig); a niece, nephew, aunt and uncle.
A viewing will be held between the hours of 6:00 P.M. and 8:00 P.M. on January 14, 2007 at Donohue Funeral Home located at 1627 West Chester Pike, West Chester, PA. and, again, on January 15, 2007 between the hours of 10:00 A.M. and 11:00 A.M. at SS. Simon and Jude Roman Catholic Church located at 6 Cavanaugh Court, West Chester, PA. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 A.M. following the viewing. Burial services will be private.
